Year 2 - Swimming Lessons

Dear Parents,

As part of the national curriculum, Year 2 will be going swimming on a weekly basis for 11 sessions on Thursday afternoons from 25th April 2019 until 11th July 2019. The sessions will be led by qualified swimming instructors and will be free for all Year 2 children.

We will walk to and from the Laura Trott Centre each Thursday so please ensure your child has a suitable waterproof coat or sunhat on swimming days.

On Thursdays, girls should bring a one-piece swimming costume and towel and the boys swimming trunks (not shorts) and a towel. Please note all children must now wear a swimming hat.  Any children without hats will not be able to swim. This is a Laura Trott Centre rule.

In line with the normal procedures for PE, earrings should not be worn. If your child has a verruca, a swimming sock should be worn or a special verruca liquid used.

If for some medical reason your child is unable to go swimming at any time, please let your child’s class teacher know.

We need parents to help supervise the children in walking to and from the Laura Trott Centre and also in the changing room. Under current regulations these parents would need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you can help on a regular basis, please indicate on the form attached and we will contact you.

All permission slips must be returned to school by Friday 22nd March 2018

Yours sincerely

Year 2 - Swimming Lessons

Dear Parents,

In preparation for swimming, we would like to request that you prepare your child to be more independent when changing and drying themselves. They will need to be able to change into swimming clothes, pack their clothes into a bag, dry themselves and change back into dry clothing. This will ensure the children have the maximum time in the pool.

We hope that you can manage to take your child to a swimming pool in the 10 weeks that lead up to the swimming lessons, to enable them to feel comfortable in the environment and start to become more independent under your supervision.

Details for swimming days

  • On Thursdays your child will need suitable waterproof coat or sunhat.
  • Girls should bring a one-piece swimming costume and towel.
  • Boys swimming trunks (not shorts) and a towel.
  • Goggles are allowed providing the children can put them on and off themselves.
  • Please note all children must now wear a swimming hat whilst in the pool. Any children without swimming hats will not be able to swim. This is a Laura Trott Centre rule.
  • Verruca’s should be covered with a swimming sock or a special verruca liquid used
  • Earrings should not be worn

If for some medical reason your child is unable to go swimming at any time, please let your child’s class teacher know immediately.

Yours sincerely
