On Monday 23rd June 2025, the Burleigh Parliament held its first ever Careers Convention and it was a resounding success! We were lucky enough to have representatives from across a whole range of industries and professions, including:
Dressmaker
Firefighter
Telecommunications
Crane operative
Social Worker
Architect
Royal Mail ambassador
TV production
Hotelier
Pharmacist
Accountant
The Home Office
Freight Train Driver
Housing and Homelessness Support Worker
Social Media and Marketing
The children from Years 3 to 6 used their time well, asking thoughtful questions and gaining an insight into careers they possibly had not considered previously. Many enjoyed the opportunity to participate in interactive activities such as working a remote-controlled crane, using a sewing machine and exploring different kinds of cameras.
A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who donated their time. We hope to build on this year's success and make the Burleigh Careers Convention an annual event.
“It was really fun to learn about what jobs there are out there and hear the people’s opinions about their jobs. My favourite was the train driver.” Pearl 6AP
“I found it exciting because there were so many people with different jobs – some I had never heard of like the telecommunications engineer.” Archiie Year 6
“It was a really great experience to help children find out about jobs they might want to do in the future and the adults had great responses.” Poppy Year 5
“I really liked how the TV producer showed us cameras over the years from around 1940. We could see how technology has improved.” Aaron Year 5
