Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school! We hope that you and your child have settled well? It’s always great to hear people greeting each other on the first morning of school and sharing holiday news. Who would have thought that after weeks of sunshine it would rain so heavily this morning?
School Uniform
Thank you for responding so positively to our school uniform expectations which are outlined on the school website:
https://www.burleighschool.co.uk/page/?title=Burleigh+School+Uniform&pid=44
As we have moved to only one PE day a week, we ask that all children have either a Burleigh cardigan or jumper to wear on non-PE days. Therefore, children should not be wearing a Burleigh fleece or hoodie inside classrooms unless for PE.
To ensure children’s safety at break and lunchtimes, we also ask that the only jewellery worn is a watch and small stud earrings. Please don’t send your child to school wearing hooped earrings or bracelets.
Summer uniform may be worn until the end of September.
‘Meet the Teacher’ Events
Each year, parents are invited to meet their child’s new teacher and hear about the planned curriculum, school trips and expectations for the coming year. These events last about 30 minutes and consist of a presentation by the teachers followed by questions. Please do your best to attend. Dates and times are as follows:
Year 1: Wednesday 16th September at 2.30pm in the Infant Hall
Year 2: Wednesday 16th September at 2.30pm in the Junior Hall
Year 3: Wednesday 16th September at 3.30pm in the Infant Hall
Year 6: Wednesday 16th September at 3.30pm in the Junior Hall
Year 4: Thursday 17th September at 3.30pm in the Infant Hall
Year 5: Thursday 17th September at 3.30pm in the Junior Hall
We look forward to working with you throughout 2026-27.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Norman

Dear Parents,
Burleigh will be celebrating Black History Week from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd October.
We will be following the national theme of “Honouring Our Communities” by focusing on the individuals who shape, support and sustain Black life in the UK, along with the contributions of people who may not necessarily attract headlines but have deep community impact eg the current Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Patsy Spears, who will be visiting Burleigh on Wednesday 21st October.
Parents and grandparents are warmly invited to contribute to our week. If you would like to do so, please contact Mr Norman, Miss Maxwell/Mrs Glock or Miss Atakora (History Lead) in person or via the school’s email address: admin@burleigh.herts.sch.uk
Yours sincerely,
Mr Norman

Dear Parents,
You are warmly invited to a coffee morning and optional packed lunch workshop on Tuesday 20th October from 8.40-9.30am. Our Nourish Team project officer, Ruby Smiles, will be available to answer any questions you may have about what to put in your child's packed lunch, or any other query relating to food and healthy eating. Even if you are only able to spend 10 minutes before rushing to catch your morning train, you are most welcome. The image below gives more detail.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Norman

Dear Parents and Carers,
As parents ourselves, we understand that getting children to school can be challenging, particularly when balancing work, family commitments and busy mornings. Thank you for everything you do to help your children arrive safely and ready to learn.
As parent governors, we share the school’s commitment to keeping all children safe, including on their journeys to and from school. We have recently noticed an increase in unsafe parking during drop-off and collection, and we would appreciate your help in making these times safer for everyone.
Burleigh encourages families to walk to school wherever possible. We recognise that this is not practical for every family or every journey. If you need to drive, please park safely and considerately, a little further from the gates where possible, and walk the final part of the journey with your child.
Please help by:
We want to work together to make the school-run safer and less stressful for children, parents, carers and our neighbours.
We would welcome your suggestions about what would make your journey easier or help more families walk to school. Please share your ideas by emailing admin@burleigh.herts.sch.uk and including as the title: FAO Parent Governors – traffic suggestions.
Thank you for your understanding and for the care you show our school community each day.
Kind regards,
Parent Governors

Dear Parents,
Thank you for supporting the school throughout our first half term, during which the children have worked as hard as ever. Yesterday, Councillor Patsy Spears, the Mayor of Broxbourne, visited Burleigh. She was overwhelmed by the way in which the children came into assembly, saying that Burleigh was the ‘best’ school she had visited!
Winter Uniform
After an amazing summer, the weather is starting to change, and with it our uniform expectations.
From this point onwards, all children in Years 2-6 are expected to wear a white shirt and tie with their Burleigh cardigan or jumper (not fleece). Ties can be purchased from the school office or from our online uniform provider:
PE Days: A Burleigh fleece, Burleigh hoodie or plain navy tracksuit top may be worn on PE days. As PE will still take place outside, children are welcome to wear plain navy blue jogging bottoms when it starts to get colder. Please avoid sending your child into school wearing ‘designer’ clothing as this is unfair on other children.
Jewellery: Earrings may be worn. If you choose this option, please ensure they are small, discreet stud earrings and not hoops. Bracelets and necklaces should not be worn.
Many children are already wearing full winter uniform and look incredibly smart. Thank you for the time and effort you put into ensuring your child is well-turned out for school. It is greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Norman
