26th September - Today in Science, Year 4 tested out the impact that heat has on melting ice. Each group were given a tealight, a spoon and an ice cube. They timed how long it took to melt the ice cube over the tealight while we also times how long it took an ice cube to melt without heat applied. All the heated ice cubes melted within 16 minutes whereas the unheated ice cube had still not completely melted 51 minutes later! We learned that applying heat to some solids can accelerate the change in state to liquid form.
