As part of their topic on the Vikings, Year 4 created their own Viking shields inspired by traditional Norse symbols. The children explored the meaning behind ancient imagery such as the Tree of Life, the wolf, the Celtic knot, the raven, and Odin’s spear. They then incorporated these symbols into their designs, using colour mixing techniques to create striking tertiary shades. The final shields were creative, bold, and full of historical character – a fantastic blend of art and history!
Can you see some of the Norse symbols in our final shields?
