Our Governors

Our Aim

The Governors bring a range of experiences and skills from many walks of life. We work as a team to ensure that the pupils in Burleigh Primary School are given the best possible education and achieve their full potential. One of our key priorities is raising the standards of our school.

What We Do

We have three main roles. These are broadly defined as follows:

  • Accountability
We are accountable to the whole school community for the performance of the school. We question and refine proposals while respecting the professional roles of the Head Teacher and staff. We account for the school’s performance and explain decisions and actions to anyone with a legitimate interest.
  • Critical Friend
We monitor and evaluate how the school is progressing, providing support when new strategies are being explored and strike a balance between support and challenge.
  • Strategic
We ensure our school has clear aims and values, which are evident on a day-to-day basis. We focus on raising standards of achievement, ensure resources are prioritised and linked to the School Development Plan, set out and review policies and procedures, as well as reviewing targets, including the progress that the school is making towards them.

How We Do It

Full Governing Body Meetings take place every term. In addition, there are 3 sub-committees that meet termly, At these meetings we review and discuss various items including compliance with current legislation e.g. Financial Management Standards, regularly review our budget, discuss the School Development Plan, review policies and procedures and challenge these where appropriate.

We work closely with the Head Teacher and staff, undertaking visits to school on a regular basis to assist us in our understanding of what goes on. Governors usually serve for four years and are given appropriate training to prepare them for their role.
