Well done to everyone who participated in the sponsored read for World Book Day, you have all done amazingly well and have raised so much money for the school!
On Friday, Danielle from Usborne books is visiting us again to celebrate our sponsored read and to hand out prizes to the winners of most minutes read and most money raised.
This will then be followed by a fabulous book fair which will be taking place outside the Year 2 classrooms. All classes will visit the book fair throughout the day and parents are welcome to visit the book fair after school.
The book fair will also be open on Monday 11th March and Wednesday 13th March, when parents will be able to visit during parents' evening.
We hope you have all enjoyed taking part in the sponsored read and that you have discovered many new and exciting books.
The more that you read,
the more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
the more places you will go.

Wow! What an amazing turnout for the Jamaican food tasting - we almost ran out of cups! The smells wafting out of the bus shelter were absolutely delicious! The selection of tasty foods available to sample included, corn fritters, vegetable patties, tuna patties, dumplings, plantain, chicken and rice - A huge thank you to Miss Lisa Bogle and her catering company for, very generously, doing this for the children and parents - they absolutely loved it!
The children in KS1 had a real treat earlier this week. Mrs Samantha O'Connor, our Friday dance teacher, came into school and gave our younger children a lesson in African Drumming with a little bit of dance added in. The children absolutely loved it, and showed a real talent for it! See photos below.
Today the children in KS2 had an inspiring assembly given by Miss Lisa Bogle, a friend of the school. Miss Bogle is a former parent and Governor of Burleigh and an ex head teacher. Miss Bogle spoke about her different ambitions when she was growing up and about her education and work life. Miss Bogle's message to the children was to be Ambitious, Motivated, Innovative, to Persevere, to show Love & Respect and to have Patience - above all to 'Always believe in yourself' and to know that 'You are good enough.'
The children in KS2 were lucky to have a guest speaker in assembly yesterday. Mr Francis Webb, an App Designer and Football Coach,
came to speak to the children about the life story of Emma Clarke, the first British black woman to play professional football and Lauren James, the England International footballer. Mr Webb also gave a mini football demonstration, and two girls who had never played football before, were selected to take part and pass a football for the first time. Mr Webb's message to the children was - If someone says you can't do something, remember - 'If you always believe in yourself, you can do anything!'
As part of Black History Month, the children in KS2 were lucky enough to enjoy an assembly hosted by our amazing guest speaker Mrs Cynthia Rowe, the headteacher of a school in St Albans. Mrs Rowe told the children about her family and her life growing-up, including the racism she encountered . The focus of her assembly was about having a sense of belonging in the world, and in the words of Baroness Floella Benjamin "All children, everywhere in the world, need to know they belong." After the assembly, the children in year six had the opportunity to ask Mrs Rowe questions about her life and her experiences - they were captivated and inspired by her exuberance for life, her courage to challenge bigotry and her capacity for forgiveness. We very much look forward to Mrs Rowe's next visit, which will hopefully be in the very near future.
SHE DID IT!!!
Our amazing year 5 teacher Miss Mac completed her
'1 Million steps in eight weeks' challenge to raise £300 for Great Ormond Street Hospital! Not only did Miss Mac raise more than £300, but she absolutely smashed her target by raising over £1040 to date!! There is still time to donate to her chosen charity via her Just Giving page if you wish to do so.
A big shout out to the children in Miss Mac's class who raised an amazing £300 selling homemade fruit kebabs to friends and neighbours!
Huge congratulations to Miss Mac! What an incredible achievement!
