Welcome to Year 5!
After a great start to Year 5, we have lots more to look forward to during this Spring Term.
In English, we will be writing a non-chronological report on Space. ‘Marvellous Mars’ will be the main text that we will use to help the children to write their own reports on the planets in our solar system. We will then be writing some narrative poetry based on the war and the book ‘Where The Poppies Now Grow’ by Hilary Robinson. In the second half of the Spring Term, we will be writing a narrative piece using the text ‘Leon And The Place Between’ by Angela McAllister to inspire us.
Throughout the term in Maths, we will be learning about the formal written methods for multiplication and division. We will also be comparing, ordering and finding equivalent fractions and then adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions, including whole numbers. In the second half of the Spring Term, we will be problem solving using the four operations and exploring area, volume and measures.
Our first topic will be ‘Earth and Space’. This will be taught in subjects such as science, geography and English. Our second topic this term is ‘The Tudors’ where we will be studying local history.
We are also very excited to welcome Mrs Roberts and Miss Dursun to the Year 5 team!
