  • Shaking up Shakespeare!

    Last week, pupils in year 6 took part in a two day workshop - Shaking up Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream - with Anthony Glenn.  The children learned different acting techniques such as improvisation and mime, they made up their own sketches based around a theme and performed to the class.  Over the two days, Anthony Glenn, along with the children, produced a version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was performed to parents in a special afternoon assembly.  It was wonderful to see the children perform with such enthusiasm and talent! 
  • Road Safety Visit

    The Sainsbury Road Safety Lorry paid a visit to Burleigh today.  The Road Safety Officers gave a talk to the pupils in Year 6 on the dangers of crossing roads and cycling near lorries and other large vehicles.  The children had to opportunity to sit in the lorry and see for themselves how the driver's vision is restricted by blind spots.  The children learned a great deal about road safety and the golden rule of 'If you can't see the driver, the driver can't see you.'

  • Crucial Crew!

    Last Friday, pupils in Year 6 visited Hertford Regional College to take part in a number of activities designed to help them feel and act safely in a number of real-life situations.  Some of the important thing they learned were, how to stay safe when near train lines and overhead cables, what to do if they fell in icy water and fire/electrical safety around the home.  The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the activities and came away with knowledge to help keep them safe when they are out and about with friends and family.
  • Burleigh Remembers 1918 - 2018

    Today the children of Burleigh School marked the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I.  They remembered the fallen soldiers of two World Wars and the many wars and conflicts that have taken place since.  All week the children have been learning what life was like at home and what it was like to be a soldier on the front line.  Today the school held a two minute silence on the school field then poppies were planted in the ground in remembrance of the fallen.
