  • Year 3's Sustainability Project

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

The children in year 3 are studying sustainability and habitats in science.  Their special project is to create a wild flower meadow in the school grounds, to try and attract more wildlife into the playground.  The children have been digging and raking, and preparing the ground for the wild flower seeds that will be planted very soon.  In addition to the re-seeding of the area, the children have started to build a bug hotel which will encourage more bugs to their wild flower meadow.  They have done a fantastic job!  We can't wait to watch their seeds grow and see more bees, butterflies and bugs thriving in their new habitat.

  • What Do Owls Eat?

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

On Monday, year 3 were lucky enough to have a fascinating visit from the Be Free Forest School! During the visit the children learnt about the different things barn owls eat.  Barn owls swallow their prey whole, as they cannot digest hair and bone, these are regurgitated as pellets.  The children dissolved owl pellets in water, and dissected them to investigate what a barn owl had eaten.  Things they found included, a shrew's skull, various mouse bones and rodent teeth.  The children had a great afternoon!  See the photos in the gallery below.

  • Rock Steady Concert!

    Wed 22 Mar 2023

Wow, what an afternoon!  The children who take music classes with Rock Steady, put on a fantastic concert for their parents, showcasing everything they have been working on in their lessons!

This term the Year 1 & 2 children worked on their musical techniques, pushing and working hard to play difficult parts, such as moving between two rhythms, tricky vocals and chord changes as well as learning more notes on their instruments.  The Year 3 & 4 children honed their mic techniques, learned how to move between notes on a faster turnover, and worked on perfecting their instrument skills.  The Year 5 & 6 children  learned how to work independently within their band, counting in their heads to keep in time with everyone else, and learned to play a whole song, unaided, and with increasing complexity.  A huge thank you to their amazing band leader Emily and massive congratulations to all the children who took part - you played with enthusiasm and confidence - it was a fabulous concert, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who watched!

Videos of all three bands can be found on our Music page.
